City of Refuge is a research, development, and training center dedicated to equipping the church for effective community engagement. We offer a range of mapping, assessment, and data visualization services to help clients answer important questions and make strategic decisions. Our core services are Impact Assessments and Gap Analysis. We also design innovative and empirically sound research solutions for community development initiatives. We love to help churches know their communities inside and out, measure impact, and collaborate with Jesus’s redemptive work in the world.
City of Refuge began with the 2013 “Not in My City” initiative by Cape Christian Fellowship in Cape Coral, FL. The initial work consisted of qualitative asset and need assessments, disseminating resource guides, and strengthening community partnerships with a collective impact model. Between 2013-2016, several large-scale initiatives were launched including the Samaritan Health and Wellness Center, the first Christian medical center for the working uninsured or under-insured in Southwest Fl., ABC-V, an innovative foster care visitation program in partnership with University of Delaware, Safe Families of Southwest Fl., and a partnership with the Lee County School District to organize mentoring programs at local schools. Overall, the initiative revealed the potential of churches to significantly impact communities.
In 2016, City of Refuge officially launched to help churches strengthen their community impact. We strive to innovate highly contextual, efficient, and reliable solutions for churches to know their communities inside and out, measure impact, and access best practices for large-scale initiatives. Presently, we are supporting work with leaders in early-childhood intervention strategies and the Church and Mental Health.
